Getting to Makarska from Split Airport

Makarska is around an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half from Split Airport, depending on the route and the season. The D8 coastal road is the scenic choice: it passes Omiš beneath the cliffs of the Cetina gorge and then follows the sea the whole way down the Riviera. The alternative is the A1 motorway to the Zagvozd exit, then down through the tunnel to the coast — less dramatic but steadier, and often quicker on summer afternoons when the D8 fills with beach traffic.
