Who the 8–9 seat vans fit

A 9-seat Renault Trafic or an 8-seat Mercedes-Benz V-Class (or similar) is the practical answer whenever one car is not enough and two cars are a headache. The groups we see most often at Split Airport:

• Families of five or six with proper holiday luggage — a van swallows the suitcases, pushchairs and beach kit that two ordinary cars would struggle to split between them.

Driving a van on the coast

An honest word on where a van works and where it does not. The A1 motorway and the coastal D8 are no trouble — the lanes are normal width and the Trafic and V-Class drive much like large cars. Old-town streets are another matter: the historic centres of Split, Trogir and Omiš were laid out centuries before nine-seaters, so plan to park at the edge and walk in, exactly as local van drivers do. Ferries to Brač and Hvar carry vans without fuss, but ferry and cross-border plans must be mentioned in your reservation request so they are approved before pickup.
